The Super Jolly V Up Timer is the doser version, and it is the least complicated grinder Mazzer makes for a commercial bar. Set the time switch, let it fill the 280 gram doser, then pull the lever for each shot. There is no screen to learn, no software to lock out, and no menu for a new hire to get lost in.

Each pull of the lever drops a measured dose, adjustable from 5.5 to 8 grams, or 8 to 10.5 grams if you order the oversize kit. The removable funnel and the adjustable stainless steel portafilter holder center the grounds in the basket so less of your coffee ends up on the counter. Underneath it is the same platform as the rest of the range: 64mm flat hardened high-carbon steel burrs, stepless micrometrical adjustment, and an aluminum die-cast body.

This is the grinder to buy when reliability matters more than features and the budget is real. It is the lowest price of any Super Jolly, it is the simplest to run, and there is very little on it to break. Good as a main grinder in a small to medium cafe, and good as the decaf grinder anywhere.

Is the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer a commercial grinder or a home grinder?

Mazzer rates the Super Jolly V Up Timer for professional use and the manual states it is not intended for household use. It is a doser grinder built for a bar, and it is a poor fit for most kitchens: it stands 24 inches tall, and it works by keeping ground coffee in a doser rather than grinding fresh for each shot.

What is the difference between the Super Jolly V Up Timer and the Super Jolly V Up Electronic?

The Timer is a doser grinder. It grinds on a time switch into a 280 gram chamber and you pull a lever for each dose. The Electronic is grind-on-demand, with a touchscreen, three programmable doses, and a portafilter-activated fork that grinds straight into the basket. Both share the same platform, the same 64mm burrs and the same footprint. The Timer is cheaper and simpler. The Electronic gives you fresher grounds and tighter dose control.

Mazzer makes three doser versions. Which one is this?

This is the Timer version, with a time switch. Mazzer builds the Super Jolly V Up doser in three versions: Manual with a plain on and off switch, Timer with a time switch, and Automatic which starts every 12 doses and stops when the doser is full.

What size burrs does the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer use?

64mm flat burrs in hardened high-carbon steel, Mazzer reference 233M. Mazzer designs and manufactures its own burrs in Italy. They turn at 1400 RPM on 50Hz and 1600 RPM on 60Hz, which is what you have in the United States.

How much coffee does the doser on the Super Jolly V Up Timer hold?

280 grams, about 0.6 pounds. Each pull of the lever releases a measured dose between 5.5 and 8 grams, and Mazzer offers an oversize kit that takes that to 8 to 10.5 grams. For a double you pull twice.

Does coffee go stale sitting in the doser?

Ground coffee starts losing aromatics within minutes, so yes, coffee held in a doser is not as fresh as coffee ground to order. That is the honest tradeoff of any doser grinder including the Super Jolly V Up Timer. The practical answer is to grind only what you will use in the next few minutes and keep the doser lightly filled during slow periods. If you want every shot ground fresh, the Electronic is the version to buy.

How fast does the Super Jolly V Up Timer grind, and how much can it handle?

About 8.9 seconds for a 17 gram dose, which puts the Super Jolly V Up Timer in Mazzer's medium output class. Actual time varies with roast, blend and grind setting. The real ceiling is the duty cycle printed on the label on the side of the machine, and the manual advises against running it more than 10 to 15 minutes at a stretch. For a cafe grinding steadily all day on one machine, look at an 83mm platform.

Does the Super Jolly V Up Timer have a cooling fan?

No. The Super Jolly V Up Timer has no cooling fan. The double fan cooling system is a Super Jolly V Pro feature. This machine relies on its duty cycle and on thermal overload protection that cuts power to the motor if it overheats.

How tall is the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer and will it fit under a cabinet?

The Super Jolly V Up Timer is 24 inches tall with the standard hopper, 7.75 inches wide and 10.5 inches deep. Standard kitchen cabinets sit about 18 inches above the counter, so it will not clear one. It also needs 6 inches of clearance from walls and adjacent equipment with the front left open.

How do you adjust the grind on the Super Jolly V Up Timer?

Stepless micrometrical adjustment by collar. There are no preset steps, so you can land anywhere between two settings. One notch on the collar shifts espresso brew time by roughly three seconds, which is the practical unit to think in when you are dialing in.

Will the Super Jolly V Up Timer work with my portafilter?

The Super Jolly V Up Timer has an adjustable stainless steel portafilter holder that takes most portafilter shapes and diameters and adjusts for height. Set it before first use following the manual. A removable funnel at the outlet helps center the grounds in the basket.

When should I replace the burrs on the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer?

Mazzer does not publish a fixed interval in the Super Jolly V Up manual. It advises checking the burrs periodically and replacing them once grind quality drops, because worn burrs crush beans instead of cutting them, which generates heat and widens particle size. The signs are longer grind times for the same dose, more fines and boulders, and shots that channel where they used to run clean. Use original Mazzer burrs, and grind a few doses after fitting a new set and discard them.

What power does the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer need?

350 watts on 120 volt single phase power through a standard US plug, with 5 amp service. The outlet must be properly earthed and protected against overcurrent, and Mazzer specifically says not to run it on an extension cord or a multi-socket adapter.

How loud is the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer?

Mazzer measures daily noise exposure at 74 dB(A) plus or minus 2.2 dB(A), based on 240 minutes of operation across an eight hour shift. That sits below the 85 dB(A) action level in the OSHA occupational noise standard.

Is the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer NSF certified?

The Super Jolly V Up Timer is ETL Sanitation Listed to NSF-8 and ETL Listed to UL-763. That matters if your local health department or your insurer requires listed equipment behind the bar.

What comes in the box with the Super Jolly V Up Timer?

A plastic static tamper and two funnels. Mazzer also offers optional extras including the oversize dosing kit, a spring coffee pressing device with a long fork, an easy tamper for the doser, and a magnetic tag holder for the hopper.

Where is the Mazzer Super Jolly V Up Timer made?

Italy. Mazzer Luigi S.p.a. has built grinders near Venice since 1948 and manufactures its own burrs in house.
